Ballet San Jose explores romance from many angles

Ballet San Jose's sweet valentine will neither make you fear stepping on a scale nor dread your next visit to the dentist. This most enjoyable program, which continues through this weekend, offers love as a many-colored splendid thing -- traditional, tumultuous, bitter and humorous.

Opening with his 1982 ``Le Style Classique,'' choreographed for Cleveland Ballet, choreographer and company artistic director Dennis Nahat proved the naysayers wrong: Mozart can be choreographed. His Symphony No. 39, with its unusual adagio first movement, brought forth a lovely study of formality at ease.

Designed for 12 couples -- including Karen Gabay, excellently partnered by Preston Dugger -- Nahat, in best symphonic tradition, let himself be inspired by the opening theme, from which he built a series of ever-more-free variations.

Tuva-Online: Vote Tuvan First Ballet Dancer to Siberian of the Year!

Voting for the best Siberian people starts today, January 30 on www.sib21vek.ru and will last till February 7. There are 34 nominees out of which you are to select every day 7, no more and no less. Many of the petenders are actually Siberians only by birth or have no relation to Siberia at all, like President Putin who is among nominees. But they contribute to the glory of Siberia, organisers believe. Among the nominees is a legendary Tuvan first ballet-dancer Natalia Azhikmaa-Rusheva, who celebrated in 2006 her 80th anniversary.
